Sutton Uplift is a primary mental health service, which incorporates a Wellbeing Service, the Sutton Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) service, an Assessment Team and a Primary Care Recovery and Support Team. Sutton IAPT is professionally managed by a Consultant Clinical Psychologist and operationally managed by the Uplift Service Manager. The IAPT team includes Clinical and Counselling Psychologists, IAPT High Intensity Practitioners and Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners who provide evidence-based psychological interventions in line with NICE guidance.
Main duties of the job
We are seeking an enthusiastic and suitably experienced clinician to provide Psychodynamic Psychotherapy / Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy (DIT) to patients of Sutton Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) service. You will either have completed training as a DIT practitioner (see Lemma, Target & Fonagy, 2011) by undertaking a practitioner level qualification in DIT as specified by the British Psychoanalytic Council, or be eligible and motivated to undertake this training.
You will be providing evidence-based psychological assessment and treatment to people aged 18 and over, presenting with anxiety, depression and eating disorders at Step 3. You will work clinically within primary care settings and be required to work flexible hours in line with GP surgery hours and the 'Improving Access' agenda. The service operates 9am until 8pm and the post holder will be willing to work one regular evening clinic until 8pm. The post-holder will receive weekly clinical and case management supervision and have the opportunity to attend regular Trust-wide and in-house training sessions.

- To provide specialist assessment of clients referred to the service based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources including psychological and where appropriate, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews.
- To formulate and implement plans for the evidence-based treatment and/or management of a clients common mental health problems, based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of the clients problems, and employing methods based upon evidence of efficacy.
- To be responsible for implementing psychological interventions employed individually and in synthesis, maintaining a number of provisional hypotheses, adjusting and refining psychological formulations drawing upon different explanatory models and employing methods of intervention that are based upon evidence of treatment efficacy
- To evaluate and make decisions about treatment options taking into account both theoretical and therapeutic models and highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the individual, family or group.
- To exercise autonomous professional responsibility for the assessment, treatment and discharge of clients whose problems are managed by psychologically based standard care plans.
- To provide specialist psychological advice guidance and consultation to other professionals contributing directly to clients formulation, diagnosis and treatment plan.
- To contribute directly and indirectly to a psychologically based framework of understanding and care to the benefit of all clients of the service, across all settings and agencies serving the client group.
- To undertake risk assessment and risk management for individual clients and to provide advice to other professions on psychological aspects of risk assessment and risk management.
- To communicate in a skilled and sensitive manner, information concerning the assessment, formulation and treatment plans of clients under their care and to monitor progress during the course of treatment.
