Job summary

Due to the secondment of the current post-holder, we are seeking a highly motivated peer worker who is experienced in project management and strategic development for a 12-month fixed term contract (with possibility of extension). It is essential that you have personal lived experience of accessing mental health services or caring for someone who does, experience working in a lived experience role, as well as experience of working with a range of stakeholders and overseeing and/or developing a project(s).

For this role, depending on experience, we are able to offer candidates currently at band 6 or 7 the opportunity to take up a band 7 role or alternatively a development role from band 6 to 7 whilst in post, upon meeting specific development milestones during the year.

A range of training and support, both for those seeking career progression within peer focussed services and/or project development is available, as well as access to 6 sessions of individual coaching to explore career development and leadership roles within mental health care.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will use their lived experience, knowledge and expertise to support the organisation to develop and embed peer-led recovery-focused services.They will be responsible for the strategic oversight and development of peer support functions across the Trust.

You will work towards delivery of effective support, supervision and training frameworks so that services and individuals are able to meet the peer support competencies. To do this you will require:

  • Personal resiliency developed through managing your own lived experience of managing mental health challenges and using services and the ability to be a positive role model to contribute to the creation of a culture where lived experience and expertise is recognised and valued
  • Experience of project management and the ability to work under pressure to tight timescales and adapt to a regularly changing environment
  • A professional background of managing a team(s) and developing and delivering training and supervision
  • Experience in partnership working and integrating and developing the principles of peer support within a team(s) and evidence of training within this area
  • An enhanced knowledge of the principles of recovery, social inclusion and coproduction and how these apply in practice

Band 7 -The post holder will lead on strategic and operational delivery of the Peer Support function within Community Transformation, and operational relationships with partners and other stakeholders.

About us

You will be based within the Involvement Team, who are a friendly, hard-working and ambitious team of individuals with lived experience of mental distress and of accessing or caring for someone who has accessed mental health services, and this is an essential criterion of all our roles. The team lead the Trust in the areas of: Involvement and Coproduction (including Carers), and the Volunteer and Lived Experience Workforce.

You will also work closely with the Community Transformation mobilisation team and relevant community mental health teams, as well as a variety of community partners

In this role you will be able to work Monday to Friday in the time frames from 8am to 6pm, giving you the very best of good work life balance. Following induction, agile working, from home or an alternative Trust site for a significant proportion of your working hours is possible, if preferred.

Essential

  • Good standard of education with a relevant qualification (equivalent to A level standard) / appropriate portfolio of training in community &/or health, social care or a related field
  • Mental health related qualification ie mental health first aid; coaching
  • Peer Support Training
  • Band 7: Significant experience working in mental health organisation/ with individuals with mental health issues
  • Band 7: Leadership/management qualification
  • Band 7: Peer Support Supervisor training

Desirable

  • Relevant professional qualification registered nurse / AHP/ Social Worker
  • Customer Service/ Business Admin /ITQ or equivalent professional experience
  • Educated to degree level
