LOCUM CONSULTANT IN PALLIATIVE MEDICINE

Employer: Homerton University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust

Location of work: St. Joseph's Hospice, Mare Street, London

Fixed term contract until end October 2026 for maternity leave, full time 10 PAs or part time will be considered

Salary: £109,725 - £145,478 per annum pro rata + 2% on call supplement + London weighting allowance

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a Consultant who is passionate about equity in end-of-life care. You will have the opportunity to lead clinical excellence while proactively reaching "harder to reach" groups, such as the homeless community, through research, audit, and education. Supported by our multi-lingual advocacy team and modern day-hospice facilities, you will ensure our specialist services are accessible to all.

Key Requirements:

- Full GMC registration with a licence to practise.

- On the Specialist Register for Palliative Medicine (or within 6 months of CCT).

- A demonstrable commitment to inclusive practice and cultural competence.

- On-call 1:8 weeknights and weekends

Join an established, forward-thinking Palliative Care team at St Joseph's Hospice. This role is primarily community-based, with inpatient ward cover, serving the vibrant and ethnically diverse population of Newham, Tower Hamlets, City, and Hackney.

QUALIFICATION

Essential

  • MRCP/MRCGP/FRCP or equivalent qualification
  • Full GMC registration with license to practise

Desirable

  • Diploma, Masters Degree or other higher degree in Palliative Medicine

TRAINING

Essential

  • Should be on the Specialist Register for Palliative Medicine or within 6 months of attaining CCT / CESR in palliative medicine

RESEARCH, AUDIT AND TEACHING

Essential

  • Evidence of critical thinking and the ability to apply evidence in clinical practice
  • Recognition of the importance of on-going CPD
  • Experience of undergraduate and/or postgraduate teaching
  • Evidence of involvement in audit projects and quality improvement projects

Desirable

  • Publications in peer-reviewed journals
  • Evidence of experience and interest in development of self as teacher
  • Experience of leading or significant contribution to audit groups
