Job summary
Homerton Neonatal Unit, in partnership with Roald Dahl's Marvellous Children's Charity, is establishing a pioneering Band 8a Neonatal Nurse Specialist role to lead care for neonates with complex medical needs (CMC) across North East London. This specialist position will transform pathways for medically complex babies by providing expert clinical leadership from antenatal diagnosis through neonatal intensive care and into children's services.
Main duties of the job
Working at a senior, autonomous level, you will:o Act as a clinical expert and system leader for neonatal medical complexity.o Build trusted relationships with families from the earliest stages, including antenatal diagnosis where appropriate.o Bridge neonatal and children's services, ensuring safe, compassionate, and seamless transitions of care.o Lead education, quality improvement, audit, and clinical effectiveness initiatives.o Collaborate across North East London neonatal units, maternity paediatrics, community services, social care, and voluntary sector partners.o Champion family-centred, coordinated, and compassionate care, aligned with NHS values and the Roald Dahl nursing model.
Specifically, you will:o Act as a single point of expertise and coordination for families, supporting parallel planning and shared decision-making.o Lead and influence care pathways, guidelines, and standards for neonatal CMC care.o Develop and lead relevant meetings, education programmes, and quality improvement initiatives.o Contribute to data collection, audit, and service evaluation to shape future care models.o Work closely with Roald Dahl Nurse Specialists to share learning and best practice.
