We are seeking a compassionate and enthusiastic psychologist to work in the cancer and palliative care service based at the Homerton Hospital in Hackney. The role is part of a small team offering direct and indirect provision in both inpatient and outpatient settings, and will contribute to psychological thinking across the cancer pathway and workforce.
This post is suitable for those who are at - or ready to work at - band 8a level or for those who are newly qualified. If the appointee is newly qualified, they will be appointed at band 7 under a preceptorship process with a clear development plan outlining required competencies to achieve over a 12-18 month period for successful progression to Band 8a, with a review following the probation period at 6 months.
This is an excellent opportunity to develop clinical skills in this challenging but extremely fulfilling area of work. Homerton Hospital hosts a number of health and mental health services and there are growing opportunities for professional networking. There is a strong relationship with the local cancer centre psychology team at St Bartholomew's Hospital, with well-established links for mutual support and shared learning.

Main duties of the job
To contribute alongside peers to the provision of a high quality, specialist cancer and palliative care psychology service (Cancer Psychological Services) at Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust. To contribute to an inpatient and outpatient assessment service, provision of psychological formulation / management recommendations, and appropriate interventions for those with psychological difficulties related to their cancer diagnosis or other life limiting disease. To provide a consultation, promote psychosocial knowledge and service development, as well as inter-agency working within the North East London Cancer Alliance.
To supervise and support the psychological assessment and therapy provided by other psychological practitioners and other clinical staff who provide psychologically based care and treatment.
To provide line management/supervision of other qualified psychologists/student psychologists in liaison with the service lead.
The postholder will contribute to teaching programmes within Cancer Services, the Cancer Alliance, medical school, and clinical psychology training courses. As a major requirement of the job the postholder will carry out audit, policy and service development, and research and development (R&D). The postholder will further the practice of Clinical Psychology through the development and implementation of R&D programmes, evaluation, policy and service development, audit and clinical governance.
