Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Occupational Therapist, ideally with some experience of working with people persistent pain, fatigue, Long Covid or other long-term conditions, to join a dynamic, therapies-led team of psychologists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, nurse specialist, pharmacist and consultants.
The Locomotor Pain Service is an established, award winning, team providing high quality pain management services to people in Hackney living with persistent pain. There may also be the opportunity to work part time in our fatigue service.
Our supportive team environment will give you the opportunity to build on your existing OT skills and experience expand these to work with patients with complex pain presentations. Therefore experience working with persistent pain or fatigue is desirable but not essential.
There will be opportunities for close interdisciplinary working, research, teaching and training & contributing to service development. We place a strong emphasis on understanding Persistent Pain through a biopsychosocial model and encourage team members to employ psychologically informed approaches using ideas from ACT, CBT and Mindfulness. CPD is strongly supported through team-based training and attending internal and external courses.
Please note interviews will be held face to face. The post is full-time, though we may consider part time for the right candidate.
Main duties of the job
The successful applicant will be responsible for conducting MDT assessments alongside physiotherapy and psychology colleagues as well as specialist OT assessments and contributing to treatment planning and liaison following assessment. They would also independently manage a caseload of patients with Persistent Pain on a 1:1 basis agreeing an appropriate, evidence based treatment plan for supporting them with pain management goals.
In addition, the role would involve contributing to the development and delivery of the existing 10 week MDT, group pain management programmes, and leading on the design and development of OT-led groups for people with persistent pain and building relationships with community services and resources to support people with persistent pain in engaging with these and working towards values based goals.

We work in an integrative way to deliver psychologically informed pain management and support for people with a diagnosis of persistent pain and ME/CFS. The services consist of a range of professionals including Psychologists, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Pharmacists, Nurses and Pain Consultants.
There will be opportunities for close interdisciplinary working, research, teaching and training & contributing to service development. We place a strong emphasis on CPD through team based training and support for attending external courses.
The service is based at St Leonard's Hospital in Hackney, close to Old Street with excellent transport links and good local amenities.
The St Leonard's Pain Service is a well-established multi-disciplinary team which has a psychologically driven ethos. The team is enthusiastic, hardworking and dedicated to improving the quality of life of patients living with persistent pain and ME/CFS. In addition we have a wider agenda of educating other stakeholders involved in the care of patient with persistent pain/ME/CFS. We are embedded within the Locomotor Pain Service and work closely with the MSK physiotherapists providing case consultation, training and support for the well-being of staff across both services.
