Job summary
The Nursery Nurse (NN) will work under the direction and supervision of the Nurse in Charge, providing direct nursing care of the infants and their families to ensure promotion of patient safety, the health and development of the infants and contribute to the effective and efficient day to day running of the Unit.
The NN will lead working in collaboration with the qualified nurses, on ensuring the discharge planning and preparations processes are followed for all babies. The NN working with the neonatal nursing team, facilitates the smooth running of the department, promoting the safety of the infants by identifying any problems that may impact on the patient's environment or experience.
Main duties of the job
- Assists the registered nurse in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of family integrated care, ensuring there is maintenance of the infants and the families' dignity and privacy and confidentiality of patients at all time
- After instruction and competency assessment, perform basic nursing duties, including recording of patients temperature, pulse, respiration, oxygen saturation monitoring, urinalysis, blood glucose monitoring, other near patienttesting and tube feeding, reporting any abnormalities to nurse in charge.
- Ensure high level of infection control and prevention are undertaken in the NICU environment.
- Ensure babies received prescribed medications and fluids. Support and promote breastfeeding, preparing babies feeds accurately and monitor and record their feeding.
- Work collaboratively with the team in planning safe discharge home
- Participating in daily ward rounds focusing on discharge planning.
- To provide play and appropriate developmental activities to babies in Special Care.
- Keep up to date with unit communication and changes, reading the emails attending unit meetings, Clinical Governance meetings and teaching sessions.
