The closing date is 10 November 2025

Job summary

The Homerton Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is seeking an enthusiastic Locum Consultant in Obstetrics with a Special Interest in Maternal Medicine to join our dynamic and forward-thinking team. This exciting post will strengthen consultant presence within the maternity service, contributing to a 98-hour consultant presence on the Delivery Suite, enhancing high-risk antenatal care, and improving access to postnatal reviews.

Working within a passionate and collaborative consultant body, you will care for a diverse and high-risk population, supported by a Level 3 Neonatal Unit delivering from 22 weeks of gestation. The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering safe, high-quality maternity care, leading on areas of clinical expertise, and contributing to CNST, CQC, and governance frameworks. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure excellent standards of care, participate in training and supervision of junior staff, and support the ongoing development of the Women's and Neonatal Service.

This is a part-time locum role (7.5 PAs / 30 hours per week), offering opportunities to contribute to clinical leadership, quality improvement, and service development within a supportive and progressive department.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will play a key role in delivering high-quality, safe, and patient-centred maternity care, with a focus on maternal medicine and the management of high-risk pregnancies. Working within a supportive and collaborative multidisciplinary team, the postholder will contribute to the delivery suite rota, antenatal and postnatal care, and the ongoing development of the Women's and Neonatal Service.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Provide consultant-led care in obstetrics, with a particular focus on maternal medicine, contributing to antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal services.

  • Contribute to the 98-hour consultant presence on the Delivery Suite, ensuring safe and effective management of high-risk and complex cases.

  • Participate in the high-risk antenatal clinic, providing expert input for women with medical comorbidities in pregnancy.

  • Support the postnatal review service, ensuring timely follow-up and continuity of care.

  • Work collaboratively with the Senior Management Team, Clinical Leads, and multidisciplinary colleagues to support delivery of key performance indicators and service development goals.

  • Contribute to clinical governance, CNST compliance, and quality improvement initiatives, including participation in audits, incident reviews, and regulatory processes (e.g., CQC, CNST).
