Job summary

The Health Care Assistant at Hackney Ark and Children's Outpatients Department plays a key role in supporting the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care for children and their families. Working closely with the multidisciplinary team, the post holder will provide clinical and non-clinical assistance, from taking observations and measurements to preparing clinic rooms and ensuring a safe, welcoming environment. They will contribute to a positive patient experience by supporting families through the clinic process, maintaining accurate records, assisting with clinical procedures, and upholding infection control and safeguarding standards.

Main duties of the job

  • Welcome and guide children and families, explaining clinic processes.

  • Take and record measurements (height, weight, head circumference) and vital signs.

  • Monitor observations, report abnormalities, and assist with clinical procedures (venepuncture, ECG, endoscope), specifically at Children's Outpatients Department.

  • Prepare and restock clinic rooms, ensuring cleanliness and adherence to infection control policies.

  • Order and manage stock, including PPE and medical supplies.

  • Maintain accurate patient records in line with Trust standards.

  • Support specimen collection and order investigation requests.

  • Clean toys and maintain a safe, child-friendly environment.

  • Identify and report safeguarding concerns, incidents, or faulty equipment.

  • Participate in team meetings, training, audits, and service development.

  • Assist in orientating new staff and contribute to team development activities.

  • Work flexibly at Hackney Ark (Predominately) and Children's Outpatients as required.
