Job summary
The Health Care Assistant at Hackney Ark and Children's Outpatients Department plays a key role in supporting the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care for children and their families. Working closely with the multidisciplinary team, the post holder will provide clinical and non-clinical assistance, from taking observations and measurements to preparing clinic rooms and ensuring a safe, welcoming environment. They will contribute to a positive patient experience by supporting families through the clinic process, maintaining accurate records, assisting with clinical procedures, and upholding infection control and safeguarding standards.

Main duties of the job

Welcome and guide children and families, explaining clinic processes.

Take and record measurements (height, weight, head circumference) and vital signs.

Monitor observations, report abnormalities, and assist with clinical procedures (venepuncture, ECG, endoscope), specifically at Children's Outpatients Department.

Prepare and restock clinic rooms, ensuring cleanliness and adherence to infection control policies.

Order and manage stock, including PPE and medical supplies.

Maintain accurate patient records in line with Trust standards.

Support specimen collection and order investigation requests.

Clean toys and maintain a safe, child-friendly environment.

Identify and report safeguarding concerns, incidents, or faulty equipment.

Participate in team meetings, training, audits, and service development.

Assist in orientating new staff and contribute to team development activities.

Work flexibly at Hackney Ark (Predominately) and Children's Outpatients as required.
