About us

Intensive Care at Homerton is a busy and friendly unit, providing critical care to our local population and geared to their specific needs. We work actively with other units across the ICS to provide a timely and comprehensive service for our patients.

The Simulation Suite was officially opened in 2011. It is equipped with hi-fidelity mannequins including a Laerdal Sim-Man, Sim-Junior, Sim-Baby and Sim-NewB. The suite also has laparoscopic, GI-Bronch and ultrasound simulators. The sim team is exploring the possibilities of technology enhanced learning including Virtual Reality. There is a busy calendar of postgraduate and undergraduate courses being run by a diverse multi-disciplinary faculty, including mobile simulation.

The anaesthetic department has recently been recognised as an exemplar of practice by being the first in the country to be re-accredited by the Royal College of Anaesthetists quality assurance (ACSA) programme https://www.rcoa.ac.uk/node/29121. In particular, the reviewers recommended that our in-situ simulation programme be entered into their "good practice library" for other departments to learn from and emulate.

Similarly, our extensive in-situ simulation programme has been recognised by the Royal College of Physicians in its recent report, "Never too busy to learn" as innovative and exemplary.
