Job summary
The Regional Neurological Rehabilitation Unit (RNRU) is a 27-bedded unit that specialises in early inpatient rehabilitation for young adult patients, after single incident neurological events other than spinal injury. It is a custom-built ground floor unit specifically designed to meet the needs of our patients.
We are looking for a Staff Nurse to join our experienced nursing team in delivering high quality, patient-centered care. We offer a wide range of post-graduation educational opportunities from our linked universities as well as an abundance of in-house training courses.
The post holder will ensure that patients receive the necessary care and treatment to enable progress in accordance with the British Society of Rehabilitation Medicine (BSRM) guidelines. This will be achieved through the application of specialist knowledge, skills and practice.
Main duties of the job
- To document all patient details to the required standard in relation to the admission, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care using the EPR system.
- To deliver a high standard of nursing care.
- To communicate with families and significant others, involving them in the planning and delivery of care.
- To co-ordinate patient discharges, supported when necessary, by the discharge planning team.
- To manage clinical emergencies as required, ensuring that he/she is up to date with CPR training.
- To use medical equipment safely and competently and to supervise others in its use.
- To record and interpret vital signs, taking required action when they demonstrate deterioration .
- To deal with enquiries/ concerns/complaints from patients and visitors in a courteous, timely and relevant manner, informing a senior member of staff, when appropriate of actions taken or when necessary referring an enquiry to a more appropriate member of staff.
- To liaise with patents relatives; to keep them fully informed of the patients condition; to deal appropriately with patients/ relatives coping with difficult situations e.g. bereavement, debilitating conditions, unexpected hospitalisation etc.
- To encourage health promotion strategies and health education activities.
- To liaise appropriately with all members of the multidisciplinary team in a manner that promotes effective teamwork.
- To support the sister/charge nurse in achieving ward/dept objectives
