Job summary

Homerton Hospital is looking to recruit an experienced injection therapist with a specialism in neurology to work independently within our regional focal spasticity service. Applicants must have completed a recognised injection therapy training program at Masters level and have experience in assessing and treating spasticity. Applicants must have skills in working with people with cognitive and communication deficits.

Main duties of the job

To assess and treat patients with complex neurological dysfunction utilising a high level of clinical analysis and reasoning to inform intervention; making use of a high level of knowledge (including evidence based practice).

To implement and evaluate of therapy treatments as a specialist practitioner. This includes predicting length of stay, physical functional outcome and discharge destination / outcome.

Carry out assessment and treatment of clients with complex and challenging behaviour as a lone worker in a variety of domestic and public settings, including public transport, leisure centres (gym and swimming pools) on a regular basis; requiring management of unpredictable situations, a problem solving approach to risk management, empathy and negotiation skills.

To set high personal standards of physiotherapy and relate practice to available evidence.

Analyse and clinically reason the risk assessment required for the physical moving and handling of complex, dependent patients to further their rehabilitation.

To ensure patients' management is goal directed, liaising closely with colleagues in the community to ensure appropriate continuation of goal-oriented treatment following discharge.

To communicate effectively with members of the multidisciplinary team, other disciplines and external agencies on complex and contentious issues.
