Neonatal Clinical Lead Occupational Therapist

Job summary

This is an exciting career progression opportunity to clinically lead the OTs in Homerton Neonatal care alongside SLT and PT clinical leads. The post holder will offer clinical support/supervision to OTs working on this unit and oversee pathways and best practice from hospital into the community.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will

  1. Take responsibility and be accountable for OT input into developmental care, ensuring effective and efficient management of available resources to achieve departmental and Trust objectives.
  2. Provide leadership, direction, teaching and support to facilitate high quality, individualised care to infants and parents/carers in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team, at all times ensuring that the needs of the patient are placed at the centre of care delivery.
  3. Develop the service in accordance with local and national targets and government directives.
  4. Initiate and lead research, clinical evaluation and audit activity. Demonstrate a commitment to evidence-based practice,
  5. The post holder will also provide specialist advice within the Neonatal Service across the Trust, sector and collaborate with the Neonatal Operational Delivery Network (ODN) as require

  • oTo have a degree or other recognised qualification in Physiotherapy
  • oHCPC Registered

  • oAbility to autonomously manage a highly specialised clinical neonatal caseload for neonates with complex medical, neurodevelopmental, social and emotional challenges throughout their admission including discharge planning and transition to paediatric, outpatient and community services.
  • Trained in neonatal specific assessments / treatment / management and outcome measures
  • . oTrained to develop neurodevelopmental and neurobehavioral observations of infants using advanced skills to assess physiological, motor, sensory, state regulation and cognitive behaviours
  • oExcellent IT Skills including data and presentation packages
  • oClear and concise written and verbal communication skills
  • oExcellent ability to work as part of a multi disciplinary team
  • oExcellent negotiation and problem solving skills
  • oAbility to lead a team and provide expert clinical advice and intervention in neonates
