Come and join an excellent therapy team providing therapy input to patients on our inpatient Elderly Care Units at Homerton Healthcare. We are proud to be an outstanding hospital, providing services to the people of Hackney and surrounding areas.
Our team is made up of occupational therapists, physiotherapists and therapy assistants, working on our two 28 bedded units. The post-holder would lead the occupational therapists on the team, providing clinical leadership, supervision and training to the juniors within the team.
We are extremely proud of our successful multi-disciplinary team working in our team and the way that we work together to provide excellent care to the patients on our unit. We work well with fantastic community services in Hackney, and have close working relationships with these teams which is beneficial for our patients when leaving hospital.
We are looking for an individual who loves working with older and frail patients, to achieve the best outcomes and to promote dignity and independence for this client group. We also accept a small number of ITU step down patients onto our ward for rehabilitation. The post-holder will have a role in managing the rehab and goal setting with these patients, who may have a tracheostomy in situ.
Main duties of the job
- To provide clinical and managerial leadership to the Elders occupational therapy service at Homerton Hospital managing a team of occupational therapists and therapy assistants within an integrated Elders therapy service consisting of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and Therapy Assistants.
- To competently assess and manage (and support others in their assessment and management) of patients under the care of this team, including effective discharge planning.
- To coordinate the training of Occupational Therapists and Assistants and in partnership with the Clinical lead physiotherapist on the team, train therapy and nursing staff in rehabilitation and interdisciplinary working.
