Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to be part of an expanding dietetic workforce, within a multidisciplinary critical care team and part of a small, friendly and essential dietetic team within the Acute Hospital. The role will contribute to the development of the new step down and rehabilitation MDT follow up clinic for those patients seen within the critical care unit to create a seamless and effective pathway for those patients leaving ITU, critical care. We are looking for an experienced assertive and passionate Specialist Dietitian with vision and enthusiasm working 30 hours per week.

This post is dedicated to managing a critical care caseload and will require thorough understanding of complex nutrition support requirements including parenteral nutrition and enteral tube feeding.

It is a new and innovative role and we are excited to build on and develop dietetics within our critical care service within MDT.

Main duties of the job

This role will undertake highly skilled comprehensive assessment of patients with complex presentations and multi-pathologies for critical care patients using advanced knowledge and clinical reasoning skills, working closely with critical care MDT. To work closely with the medical team providing specialist advice on the appropriateness of artificial nutrition support encompassing enteral and parenteral nutrition, including the decision for line/ tube placement and removal, attend appropriate wards rounds, white board and multidisciplinary meetings in order to provide expert advice to clinicians, patients and carers regarding provision of nutrition support for patients.

Implement and update standard operating procedures, policy and service improvements. Effectively induct new dietetic staff into the department and supervise and monitor the level and standard of work undertaken by your staff and guide, coach them as appropriate. Lead on, initiate and provide training and education for medical staff allied health professionals ward staff regarding treatment and prevention of nutrition related disorders.

To jointly lead on the delivery of dietetic student placements in collaboration with HEI and be responsible for supervision of junior staff / dietetic students on placement .
