Job summary
An exciting secondment opportunity has arisen for a interim Deputy Director of Midwifery to join the leadership team within maternity and the Division which includes neonates. This will be an opportunity to help lead a dynamic, high-performing and evolving service within the communities of City & Hackney and neighbouring boroughs. Homerton Hospital is part of an NHS Foundation Trust which provides care in hospital and in the community and serves a population of approximately 252,000. Acute services operate from a single hospital site. The trust is a perinatal centre and provides a range of specialised obstetric and neonatal intensive care services.
Interview date: 15th November 2023 - post holder on secondment for 12 months, successful candidate to agree start date of 1st January 2024 or sooner if possible.
Main duties of the job
Homerton facilitates approximately 5,600 births in the NHS Trust each year. The Trust offers birthing people three options for labour and delivery: the obstetric led delivery suite, the along-side midwifery led unit (Birth Centre) and the option for a homebirth. There is 24hour access to pain relief in labour including epidurals.
The along-side midwifery led unit (birth centre) offers those with uncomplicated pregnancies a "home from home" environment. People who have given birth in the birth centre have the option of an early discharge from the Birth Centre. There is also a continuity homebirth service.
The purpose of the role is to provide operational midwifery leadership across the maternity service in order to ensure and consistently develop high quality efficient midwifery provision for all women accessing maternity care at Homerton. The post will support the Director ofMidwifery and Lead for Neonatal Nursing in leading the development of the midwifery agenda within the named services.
