Job summary
An opportunity has arisen for an individual to join the Clinical Coding Team We are a small team of professional coders, we take pride in the fact that we never ever have a backlog which means every specialty is coded 100% by the 12th of every month,
Our clinical coder provide a highly valued service to all departments across the trust, you will need an excellent understanding of ICD 10 & OPCS 4, you will be expected to work to tight deadlines and code all specialities in the trust, you should be a team player with excellent written & verbal communication skills, you should also have a flexible approach to coding all specialties and be able to prioritise workloads, you should also be able to keep your coding skills up to date through regular attention to all coding instruction manuals and Delen
You will complete timely and accurate clinical coding of the patients health record, in accordance with national standards and the conventions of UK clinical coding classifications
You will provide accurate information to support HRGs (Health Resource Groups) to facilitate maximisation of trust income through the PbR Payment by Results process Ensure that divisional/speciality coded data is regularly validated by clinicians so that the highest accuracy is achieved for mandatory information and payment flows
Main duties of the job
- Must have taken the National Clinical Coding Qualification and achieved Accredited Clinical Coder (ACC) status
- To complete timely and accurate clinical coding for all deadlines on all patients
- To provide accurate information to support HRGs (Health Resource Groups) to facilitate maximisation of trust income through the Payment by Results process
- Ensure all coded data is entered into 3M Medicode software/Cerner
- Act as a mentor and assist in the education of less experienced coders
- Ensure that divisional/speciality coded data is regularly validated by clinicians so that the highest accuracy is achieved for mandatory information and payment flows
- A continual promotion of coder/clinician engagement in all specialities
- Provide professional coding technical support to the other members of the coding team, Information team, Finance, directorate division in these and other areas
- You will be actively involved in meeting with clinicians and business managers to clarify coding issues that directly effects data quality and the trusts finances
- Work efficiently as both an individual and as part of a team
- effectively induct new staff into the Trust/department in accordance with the Trust's induction programme.
- facilitate the personal and professional development of staff. This involves identifying training and development needs, providing suitable development opportunities and evaluating development actions in accordance with the Trust's appraisal and training procedures.
