Job summary
We are looking for a confident and enthusiastic team member to join our Bowel Screening Health Improvement Team to assist in the design and delivery of evidence-based health interventions seeking to improve bowel screening uptake in four diverse north-east London boroughs - Newham, Tower Hamlets, Waltham Forest & City & Hackney.
In your role, you will:- Deliver a programme of implementing evidence-based health promotion activities within primary care and community settings seeking to improve the uptake of bowel cancer screening for the regions covered by the North East London Bowel Cancer Screening Centre.
- Work with the health improvement specialist to implement health promotion activities in accordance with the bowel cancer screening centre Health Promotion Strategy to help reduce inequalities in bowel screening participation
- Assist the health improvement specialist in assessments to inform professionals on the needs of particular communities and the barriers to bowel cancer and screenin
- Assist in the creation and provision of appropriate and tailored health information and interventions to take account of language and literacy in addition to cultural factors.
- Work with individuals using behaviour change/motivational interviewing techniques where appropriate
- Monitor and assess the effectiveness of different community engagement initiatives on screening participation and awareness.
Main duties of the job
We are interested in hearing from applicants who:
- Are at ease working with different agencies and understanding the role and scope of public health and have experience of working in community settings to promote health behaviour change.
- Are able to apply their skills and expertise in a range of settings and to a variety of audiences and be able to work flexibly
- Have demonstrable experience of using evidence to inform practice, and an academic background and/or experience in public health settings with a working knowledge of quality improvement and the ability to evaluate behaviour change interventions would be a distinct advantage
- Are able to communicate effectively to a variety of audiences via social media platforms and in face-to-face settings to facilitate workshops, deliver training sessions and report-writing
- Are passionate about healthcare and able to work with a variety of stakeholders and partners to influence collaborative working to achieve common goals
- Are familiar with the principles of screening and able to report on project progress and plan their work to meet the demands of working across four boroughs
- Are highly motivated, and able to work both autonomously and as part of a team and with a diverse range of professionals and communities.Are able to manage their time effectively between four local NHS Trusts and work in collaboration with a variety of stakeholders and public health teams across north-east London.
