Job summary

The post holder will form part of a team of receptionists across Homerton sites. The post holder will be the first point of contact for both the public and staff who access Homerton services. The post holder will be required to travel across the five community sites. The post holder will develop a good knowledge of the functioning of the sites in order to provide an informed reception service for patients.

Main duties of the job

  • Ensure patients and visitors are greeted in an appropriate and friendly manner
  • Check in patients to clinics using the relevant booking system (EPR, Rio, paper system)
  • Direct patients and visitors accordingly
  • Arrange services for patients to enable them access to their appointment. This could include arranging transport or advocacy services
  • Book follow up appointments as required
  • Cancel and rebook appointments by telephone as required
  • Explain any delays to patients who are waiting
  • Deal effectively with patients who may be angry, upset, or anxious
  • Provide patients with information about making comments or complaints about HUH services
  • Maintain a filing system for storing patient records.
  • Print and send letters to patients and referrers as required
  • Provide ad-hoc general admin support to staff based at the site as required
  • Answer telephone enquiries and pass on messages to the relevant service
  • Distribute incoming faxes and post to community teams
  • Sort the post on a site and receive deliveries
