Job summary
An exciting opportunity to join the Homerton University Hospital as a post CCT fellow. We are looking to recruit a post CCT fellow to complete our staff of 16 Consultants, 4 post CCT fellows, 12 Registrars and 13 SHOs.
Main duties of the job
This post will ideally suit a post CCT candidate with at least four years' experience at 'middle grade' level within the NHS, who wants additional experience in his/her area of interest or to consolidate and develop their expertise prior to taking on a consultant role. The candidate will have management and leadership responsibility and the opportunity to set up and lead quality improvement projects. Previous experience in audit, research and medical education will be an advantage.
About us
The Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology is a busy and innovative department. The Obstetric unit has approximately 6000 deliveries per annum with a high proportion of high risk cases. The Delivery Suite is supported by a level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and as such, attracts a large number of in utero transfers. We have a tertiary referral Fetal Medicine Unit with 4 Consultants and 3 specialist midwives. Within Gynaecology there are specialist clinics in the following areas: endometriosis, colposcopy, infertility, urogynaecology, vulval disease, perineal clinic, acute gynaecology, out-patient hysteroscopy and early pregnancy. There are 5 Consultants with an interest in minimal access surgery. There are also 3 fertility consultants who contribute to the gynaecology services. We have specialist joint maternal medicine clinics with neurologist, rheumatologist, endocrinologist, haematologist, gastroenterologist and cardiologist. We also work closely with perinatal psychiatrist as we have a Mother and Baby Unit on site.

The 4 post CCT fellows work a 1 in 4 full shift rota to provide senior SPR cover at night, working alongside another registrar and SHO with prospective cover. On-call consultant is non-resident after 2200 hrs. This is done by doing a fixed weekday night every week and a Friday-Sunday weekend set of nights every month. Job plans are tailored to specific needs and interests of the candidate and usually include some service provision as well as special interests e.g. fetal medicine, maternal medicine, minimal access surgery, urogynaecology, early pregnancy etc. There will be opportunity to obtain a new skill within obstetrics and gynaecology by undertaking an ATSM or to complete ATSMs to make CV more attractive for a consultant job. Most of our previous postholders have successfully obtained substantive consultant jobs in London and beyond. There are also opportunities to participate in audit, research and medical education and simulation.
