Job summary

  • To provide clinical nurse management, leadership, and expertise skills in all aspects of service delivery.
  • Work as expert clinical practitioner for the specialist needs of the patients, demonstrating a sound knowledge of issues relating to assisted conception.
  • The post-holder, with support from the Lead Nurse and Specialist Nurses in this area, will ensure that high standards are monitored and maintained, within the framework of Clinical Governance and Health Fertilisation & Embryology Authority (HFEA) code of conduct.
  • Out of hours review of staffing levels and workload
  • To lead by example, demonstrating effective role modelling to all members of the nursing team
  • Provides specialist nursing advice and psychological support to patients, carers, and health care professionals.
  • As a senior nurse contribute to service development, audit and research projects and helps develops educational packages according to need of care.

Main duties of the job

  • Support the medical and nursing team by co-ordinating procedures and effectively liaising with embryological and clinical staff to provide an effective service to the patients.
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary handover identifying areas of concern and escalating within appropriate pathways.
  • To have an effective knowledge and understanding regarding centre procedures and policies with sufficient knowledge and understanding of the role of the HFEA
  • Provide expert clinical assessment, management and monitoring of patients undergoing ovulation induction and supporting with egg collections, embryo transfers, and ovarian cyst aspirations and intra-uterine inseminations
  • Facilitate the personal and professional development of staff by identifying training and providing suitable learning opportunities and evaluating actions with the Trust's appraisal and training procedures.

The Homerton Fertility Centre offers comprehensive assisted conception services, has contracts with 9 CCGs in Northeast London Area and North Central London, and performs around 900 fresh IVF/ICSI cycles and 600 FERs annually. The successful candidate will join a service which provides fertility, gynaecology and obstetric services for a diverse population from across East London.
