Job summary

The post holder is expected to lead the CT department at PAH and assist the CT Modality Lead and CT Clinical Specialist in driving forward positive change. The primary focus of the role is to ensure a seamless CT service is provided on a day-to-day basis at the acute site at PAH. They will be the first point of contact for any patient escalations, equipment breakdowns and daily CT staffing issues. They will be expected to work alongside the CT senior team in relation to all aspects of training and proactively suggest service improvements for the benefit of staff and patients. They will be expected to develop and maintain the CT service alongside the CT senior team by standardising protocols, managing the patient bookings and waiting lists, and to facilitate the rotation of radiographers throughout all areas. Ultimately, they will need to work as an effective operational lead radiographer role for the CT as required.

Main duties of the job

To have an overview of CT service needs ensuring effective co-ordination and allocation of resources. To work closely with the CT Modality Lead in the provision of CT Imaging Services at PAH. Work closely with the CT Modality Lead to develop and maintain cross-site integration of imaging services, standardizing protocols, appointment systems, waiting lists and rotation of radiographers throughout clinical imaging areas. Line manage and appraise nominated radiographers. Deputize for the CT Modality Lead In conjunction with the CT Clinical Specialist, organize and overseeing the training of radiographers, assistant practitioners and student radiographers in all aspects of CT Scanning. Encourage the creation of a harmonious work environment within the CT department.

  • Perform all CT scans at an exemplary level including CT colon and CT cardiac scans.
  • Provide high quality and motivational leadership for the CT team.
  • Proactively highlight areas of service improvement and escalate these to the necessary staff
  • Work closely with other radiology superintendents to create a unified approach to service delivery
  • Assist the Radiology Management team in the ambition to have the service QSI accredited.
  • Promote the continuous improvement in service delivery and quality within all areas of the department, using modern methods to lead in the delivery of service and workforce transformation and re-design.
  • To proactively ensure one’s own continuous professional development is maintained.
  • To be a named Radiation Protection Supervisor for the CT department following appropriate training.
  • To be a proficient cannulator and assist in training radiographers and RDAs in this practice.
  • To plan, organise and prioritise own workload and assist junior staff and student radiographers in organising their workload.
  • To encourage and practice accurate "first time right" radiography and strive to achieve quality assurance in all aspects of the radiology service.

  • To assess diagnostic images for their achievement of radiographic quality and support junior staff in developing their decision-making skills.
  • To participate in ICB and NHS England networking opportunities and positively promote the service at PAH.
  • Fairly allocate any overtime shifts to the relevant CT staff as and when required.
