Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for a nurse to join our Colposcopy and Hysteroscopy department on a fixed term basis, with possibility of a permanent post beyond the initial term of 12 months (funding dependent). A secondment would be considered for trained Nurse Colposcopists looking to progress into the Band 8a ANP role. This is a role designed to support delivery of the NHS Cervical Screening Programme targets and standards, providing women with follow up care and support following diagnosis of cervical abnormalities as part of the routine cervical screening programme. The post holder will be responsible for assessing and treating patients in the outpatient setting, follow up of biopsies and results and will hold the responsibilities for the adminstration and governance of the Colposocpy Service as Deputy Lead Nurse in suppport of the current Lead Colposcopist and Lead Nurse Colposcopist. End date of fixed term contract - 31/03/2027

Main duties of the job

The post holder MUST be a Registered Nurse with current NMC Registration and must also possess a CURRENT registration as an accredited Colposcopist with the BSCCP. This post is not a training post. The post holder will be expected to contribute at an advanced level to the Colposcopy service for women with abnormal smears, abnroaml cervical findings in the community and vulval abnormalities alongside the Nurse Specilaist and Consultant team. You will be an autonomous practitioner and contribute to delivery of an expert nursing service within a specilaist service and manage your own nurse-led outpatient clinics. This will include Colposcopy, smears and Mirena coil clinics. Training in provision of Diagnostic Hysteroscopy would be an advantage or you should be willing to underatke this.

  • Provide assessment, diagnosis, panning and intervention for patients, including presesntation and participation in the MDT
  • Contribute to the effective governance, quality assurance and audit of the Colposcopy service in line with national standards
  • Provide specilaist advice, support and education to patients, carers, nurses and other members of the MDT
  • To undertake management tasks including maintaining safe staffing levels in absence of the Lead Nurse
  • To hold responsibility for their own caseload of patients, liasing with the GP and lab as needed
  • To identify the appropriate next steps for patients and esnure that subsequent appointments and investigations are booked
  • To support and deputise for the Lead Nurse Colposcopist in completing quality assurance tasks
