Job summary

This exciting and dynamic role has been developed to support the Emergency Department (ED) and inpatient specialities in managing those patients presenting with a Traumatic Injury. The post holder will be a part of the senior clinical presence within the ED and on inpatient wards and will participate in the management and delivery of care to these patients. The Emergency Department at PAH is a designated trauma unit and this is an ideal opportunity for an experienced emergency care professional. The post holder will play a prominent role in coordinating and managing the care of Trauma patients by attending Trauma Calls to the Emergency Dept and wards, monitoring and developing Trauma pathways and supporting the inpatient teams in delivering best practice care to those with a traumatic injury. This will involve supporting the Trauma Co-ordinator in identifying current patients in the trust who require entry onto the National Major Trauma Registry (NMTR) database, ensuring timely and appropriate management against NICE guidelines for trauma and working with the clinical and therapy teams to complete the required trauma rehabilitation prescriptions. They will also have responsibility for internal audit and quality improvement activities related to trauma within the trust and support the training and development needs of the staff working closely with the Practice Development Team. The post will be a full-time position (37.5 hours).

Main duties of the job

Attendance at Trauma calls within designated working hours Monitoring of compliance with Trauma Pathways Collate information regarding patients who have attended outside their working hours. Overview of the Trauma patients attending the Emergency Department and the wider Trust and action any delays/issues that are identified. Represents the Trust at regional/network level. Participate in trauma M&M/review strategies. Lead/participate in local and network wide audits. Participate in the development of local guidelines and monitor compliance. Coordinate delivery and monitoring of Trauma Peer Review Action Plan. Coordinate staff training in relation to management of trauma (i.e. equipment, ATLS, PILS etc. in conjunction with the ED Practice Development Team.   • Registered Nurse/Paramedic/Allied Health Professional
  • Educated to degree and/or equivalent experience
  • Recognised mentorship/coaching accreditation/qualification

Desirable

  • Trauma Course at Level 2
  • Emergency Nursing Course or equivalent

  • At least 5 years post graduate experience in Emergency Department and working at minimum Band 6 level within the last 12 months.
