Job summary
We are looking for an enthusiastic, caring and passionate radiographers to join our rapidly growing team at the Princess Alexandra NHS Trust. It is an exciting time to join the PAHT imaging department. In March 2026 we will go live with our next phase of our CDC project where we will install 2 brand new CT scanners at our St. Margarets site to provide additional capacity to our 3 scanners at our main acute site. As well as this, we have received funding to build a reporting radiographer team which will focus on the image reporting of all x-rays, MRI knees and spines and CT heads.
As part of our ongoing commitment to building an effective, enjoyable, and supportive department we have also created practice educator posts for x-ray, CT, and MRI which will focus on the continued learning and development of all of our radiographers. These are in addition to our student focused practice educators.
This role will cover all of the duties expected of a Band 6 Radiographer, including working unsocial hours (out of hours and on-call duties) and rotation through all aspects of x-ray imaging, interventional, cath lab, fluoroscopy and CT. The post holder will be expected to supervise and support newly qualified radiographers and student radiographers until they reach the required the level of competency.
Main duties of the job
The post holder is also required to rotate through the CT department when required and take on the responsibility of rectally intubating patients for CT Colonography examinations. Further training in CT cardiac, colonography, and biopsies is also encouraged.
The PAHT imaging department is based across 3 sites, the main acute hospital in Harlow, the CDC hub site at St. Margarets Hospital, and the CDC spoke site at the Herts and Essex Hospital in Bishops Stortford; rotation across all 3 sites is expected.

- To provide an effective Radiology service to PAH Trust, within departmental protocols.
- To be pro-active in own self-development and maintain record of CPD.
- To use computerised and manual methods to update patient records for each
- examination
- To take an active role in the implementation of IT and Radiology projects, such as the implementation of RIS, PACS, PAS, electronic requesting.
- To participate in departmental QA and Audit programmes
- To attend all mandatory training
- To be responsible for the use of expensive x-ray equipment.
- To report problems and equipment malfunctions quickly to the Superintendent Radiographer, keeping records as directed
- To report incidents and/or potential accidents within the department, in line with Trust policy
- To be responsible for the safe use of x-ray equipment within the department and around the hospital, including on wards and in theatre.
- To communicate with a broad range of patients prior to examination, to ensure consent is obtained, identification is confirmed and if applicable pregnancy status is established. This may include patients whose first language is not English or those who have difficulty understanding due to their medical condition.
- To be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of professional and clinical work
- To undertake the positioning, manipulation and handling of patients (within the Manual Handling Protocols) to obtain diagnostic x-ray images. This may include light to moderate lifting.
- To be able to recognise when an image is diagnostic
- To move heavy x-ray equipment in a way that will not cause harm to self or others
- To be able to deal with many, often conflicting, demands on attention at the same time, while remaining focused on current task
- To be able to recognise gross pathology on radiographic images and expedite reporting process if necessary, identifying noted fractures with “Red Dot” as appropriate
