Job overview

The Assistant Delivery Manager assists the Service Delivery Manager/ Service Manager in the day-to-day operational management of the services/ specialities, to deliver high quality patient services within the resources available. Working under the supervision of the Service Delivery Manager/ Service Manager, this role will have a strong operational focus providing support for day-to-day management and administration of services/specialities and deputising for the Service Manager/ Service Delivery Manager.

Main duties of the job

Leadership / Management

• Provide leadership/management within the services.

• To assist to drive the operational delivery of the key national performance targets (e.g. UEC standards). .

• Build positive working relationships within the services and across the Care Group management team.

• Motivate, influence, inspire and lead others to improve the service provided and service performance to meet targets.

Service Delivery

• Develop/ manage administrative systems and processes to support delivery of required services/ performance targets.

• Support the Care Group management team to undertake demand and capacity management to ensure that available resources are being used cost-effectively,

• Manage the administrative staff rotas, ensuring full-service coverage.

• Manage the services to the highest standards, ensuring that patients, carers and families are treated with dignity and respect.

Performance and Resource Management

• Contribute to the identification of performance objectives and operationally manage their delivery within the Service.

• To support the development of effective reporting arrangements within the service and specialty management teams to accurately record and monitor performance against local and national targets and to pro-actively manage any variances

• Work with the clinical teams to rectify any blockages/ bottlenecks to excellent and safe performance.

• Support the Service Manager and Service Delivery Manager to ensure the service(s) delivers a financial performance in line with the Trust’s agreed financial plan and to actively explore and implement opportunities for cost improvement

Clinical Governance

• Works with the Care Group multi-disciplinary leadership team to ensure that effective governance arrangements and performance management systems are in place.

• Lead for investigating specific incidents and complaints, particularly when related to the administration of services.

• To assist in the day-to-day management and supervision of staff within the service, with line management responsibility for the junior administrative teams.

• To assist with staffing issues including workforce planning, recruitment and selection, training and Human Resource Policies.

• To work with the Service Manager and Service Delivery Manager to promote a culture of continuous improvement and development.

• Manage all relevant administrative staff recruitment and selection.

• Line Manage the Administration teams.

• Ensure that direct reports are annually appraised and have a Personal Development Plan which supports the Trust’s objectives.

• In conjunction with the HR Business Partner ensure that robust systems are established for the appraisal and continual development of all staff within relevant specialties, promoting the effective use of skills and flexibility through professional and personal development.

Financial Management

• Support the service to achieve financial balance by maximizing income recovery and • ensuring that all expenditure is controlled.

• Ensure that the Care Group/Service aims are delivered within the resources available.

• Identify opportunities for efficiency savings and or income generation.
