Job summary

This role sits within the Vulnerable Peoples Team at The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust, which incorporates both Safeguarding Children, Maternity and Safeguarding Adults services. The team plays a critical role in protecting the most vulnerable patients and ensuring compliance with statutory and regulatory safeguarding requirements. The post holder will lead the Safeguarding Children Team at The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust, ensuring the highest standards of safeguarding practice and compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements. This role involves assessing patient needs, developing and implementing safeguarding care plans, and evaluating their effectiveness. You will work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams, lead meetings, and provide supervision and support to staff, maintaining professional standards in line with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct. The role requires close engagement with children, young people, families, and carers to deliver individualised, patient-centred care. As a subject matter expert, you will provide specialist safeguarding advice across the Trust, support staff in managing complex cases, and ensure adherence to safeguarding policies and procedures. You will act as a liaison with local agencies, contribute to child protection services, and deliver specialist training to enable staff to recognise, respond, and report child abuse effectively.

Main duties of the job

Scope and range Ensure effective communication and collaboration within paediatric and midwifery units, across the wider hospital, and with all members of the multi-disciplinary team, patients, and families. Deliver high standards of nursing care for children and their families, promoting a child-centred and Think Family approach. Act as a role model for best practice, demonstrating leadership and professionalism to support and guide other staff.

Multi-Agency Collaboration

  • Represent the Trust at child protection conferences, multi-agency meetings, and safeguarding boards.

Governance, Audit, and Reporting

  • Undertake audits and internal reviews, analysing findings to inform practice and service improvement.

Legal and Court Support

  • Ensure staff receive appropriate legal advice and support for statements and court attendance in childcare proceedings.
