Job summary
The Waste Portering Supervisor is responsible for providing a timely, responsive support service to all wards and departments, maintaining effective communication and coordinating the movement of waste and services. In addition to these duties, the post holder will take a lead role in waste management operations, ensuring the safe, compliant, and environmentally responsible handling of all waste streams across the Trust.

Supervising a team of staff on waste duties. Allocating, delegating and monitoring tasks in accordance with the specifications. Ensure that all day-to-day tasks are completed at the end of the shift
To prioritise and allocate various tasks to the appropriate staff via the use of computer/radio system as appropriate, ensuring correct procedures are followed.
Organise roster to cover absence and annual leave to ensure a specified service is provided.
To ensure that standards and response times are met and if necessary updating tasks with reasons for delay.

- Organise roster to cover absence and annual leave to ensure a specified service is provided.
- Supervising the completion of time sheets ensuring staff complete their time sheets in accordance with financial procedures.
- Countersign any variations of time worked.
- Support the role of the Waste Manager and cover role during periods of annual leave or sickness.
- Provide "Hands On" training for all staff to ensure they are competent in all aspects of their role on waste.
- Responsible for notifying Estates Manager / Estates manager on-call of a major incident situation.
- To act as a centre of advice on Waste Portering issues.
- Responsible for the collection and delivery of emergency waste bins.
- To provide support and basic counselling to staff as required. Counselling staff on return from absence in accordance with Trust policies and procedures.
- Completion of incident forms and accurate record keeping.
- Reporting to the estates help-line any defective machinery.
- Ensure that staff are trained in the use of both machinery and equipment before use.
- Responsible for the security of keys used within the department.
- To ensure that all Waste Portering staff are in uniform whilst on duty, wearing their I.D. badge and that presentation is always of the highest quality.
- To assist in the review and development of policies and procedures to support the aims and objectives of the Trust.
- To communicate effectively with all levels of staff and users of the service.
- Ensure that the compound area is clean and tidy and secure at the end of each shift.
- The post holder may be requested to undertake other duties is required to ensure adequate provision of service.
