The Waste Manager will be responsible for implementing The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust waste policy procedures
The post-holder will contribute to a wide range of environmental activities, including behavioural change programmes, sustainability and net zero initiatives, and support the delivery of The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust environmental objectives and relevant commitments with the Trust Green Plan.
Undertake and manage the operational procedures as per The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust waste policy
Collate, analyse and present waste and environmental performance data / information to a wide range of stakeholders for the purpose of exploring opportunities to improving The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust waste and environmental performances.
The Waste Manager will also be responsible promoting the benefits of good environmental management practices.
Ensuring compliance with all relevant environmental regulations and standards including Health Technical Memorandum (HTMs).
Main duties of the job
Responsible for the operational implementation of waste management
. Update the waste and environmental aspects of the risk registers where applicable.
Actively support the delivery of the Trusts Green Plan.
Co-ordinate waste duty of care audits, hazardous wastes pre-acceptance audits and collate all waste data required for ERIC submission and NHS England / Improvement (NHSE/I) quarterly returns.
Coordinate waste and environmental audit and management programme in line with environmental aspects and relevant regulations and standards.
Coordinate and analyse stakeholder feedback to help define needs and requirements and the design and planning of waste initiatives.
Plan, organise and implement Trust-wide events and campaigns, to promote waste and environmental compliance.
Ensure that all waste management contracts are managed in line with key
. Attendance of waste collective and management services contract management and performance review meetings.
Review the business continuity plan of the Trusts appointed waste collection service contractors.
Coordinate the Trusts participation in national and international environmental and waste management campaigns.
Collaborate with the communications team to promote sustainability waste initiatives and achievements.
Responsible for reviewing and updating waste management policy and procedures.

- GCSE Grades A-C including English & Maths
- ICERMS Healthcare Waste Management Qualification
- Knoweledge and understanding of waste and environmental legislation and best practice

- Experience of waste management in a large and complex organisation (ideally within the NHS or similar organisation)
- Experience of delivering training on waste to a wide ranging audience
- Experience of managing staff, including recruitment, capability, disciplinary and absence management
