Job summary

As a specialist in urology cancer you will utilise your specialist knowledge to effectively co-ordinate and deliver an expert nursing service to those patients with a diagnosis of urological cancer within the Urology Department at Princess Alexandra Hospital and The Oak Unit at St Margaret's Hospital, Epping. You will take on the Keyworker role and manage a caseload of patients/clients which you will be actively involved with through investigations, diagnosis and some treatments. You will also follow them up post treatment.

To develop evidence based clinical nursing practice in line with current research and guidelines and to establish clear lines of communication with primary healthcare teams in order to increase knowledge and facilitate the care of this group of people in the community.

The post holder will work closely with Urology Cancer Clinical nurse Specialist team, Urology Consultants, Oncology Consultants, Service Manager for bot Urology and Oncology and the Lead Nurse for Cancer Services. The post holder will independently provide highly specialised clinical expertise, education, leadership and management skills to ensure seamless coordination of care to patients with urological conditions and cancer.

Main duties of the job

To provide specialist nursing services, that are evidence based, to patients diagnosed with a urological cancer.

To provide expert nursing advice and support to patients, their families and other healthcare professionals following diagnosis and through treatment.

To develop nurse led services in collaboration with the consultants and to support the personalised care agenda.

To work closely with the Urology Cancer Multidisciplinary teams, ensuring to advocate for the patient throughout the pathway from diagnosis to end of treatment and beyond. This will also involve liaising with Tertiary centres and specialist Multidisciplinary teams.
