Job summary

The Facilities team is seeking to appoint a Strategic Head of Facilities & Property Services. This post is ideal if you have both broad and explicit content knowledge of facilities departments within the NHS, and will add value by integrating this with exposure to topical organisation issues to provide relevant insights or feedback.

You should be able to understand the operational impact of strategic plans, create a network across the directorate and wider Trust and in turn allow them to gauge the views and opinions of front line staff and managers, and act as the key point of contact for the directorate with external service providers.

Main duties of the job

In short, you will connect dots across projects, people, and departments to improve decision-making and efficiency.

Your main duties will be to:

  • Provide strategic and professional leadership to the management, development and efficient utilisation of the Trust's Estate and Facilities incorporating national requirements.
  • To lead strategic and operational management of the Directorate across The Princess Alexandra Hospital.
  • To ensure that the effective delivery of the directorates functions are undertaken in accordance with national standards and recognised industry best practice.
  • To provide a safe, secure and high quality patient and staff environments in the Trusts facilities and to other organisations with whom the Trust has third party occupants through SLAs.
  • Overseeing diversity and culture initiatives
  • Reviewing departmental structure, identifying any gaps and filling them
  • Aligning internal processes
  • Responsible for efficient management of the facilities budgets, including related service contracts with both commercial and NHS providers.
  • Exercising budgetary control ensuring expenditure is constrained within allocation, taking remedial action as necessary. This may directly impact staffing resources and roles and include resource rationalisation.

About us

The Facilities department encompasses the domestics, portering, transport, post room, accommodation, catering, laundry & linen and housekeeping teams with approximately 280 staff. There is a middle management team for each of the departments and a small admin team to assist with the day to day tasks.

It is a very diverse and busy department with a group of dedicated and caring staff who support each other.

  • Specialist knowledge of capital, estates & facilities legislation and statutory, mandatory and best practice case studies
