Job summary

The Estates team is seeking to appoint two Maintenance Assistants on a full-time, permanent basis.

You will carry out a range of preventative and corrective maintenance appropriate to your capabilities and training throughout the hospital, and will undertake maintenance, repairs, minor improvements and capital work across the Trust as directed by management, ensuring compliance with Trust safety standards and procedure.

As the ideal candidate, you should demonstrate a willingness learn new skills and be able to undertake multi-skilled jobs

Main duties of the job

  • Actively participate in the operation and control of engineering planned maintenance schemes. Also carry out day to day breakdown dockets.
  • Actively participate in the operation of the Princess Alexandra NHS labour control scheme by working within the scheme including completion of all paperwork and associated equipment required of the scheme. (including completion of all job dockets and timesheets.)
  • To work in accordance with the requirements of Health Technical Memorandums (HTMs) to be trained and attend courses when needed.
  • To be prepared to work in hazardous areas taking all safety measures to prevent Danger, Avoid Injury and prevent damage to equipment.

About us

The Estates maintenance team based at the Princess Alexandra Hospital are responsible for the day to day maintenance of the hospital site, this encompasses both reactive and planned works. We are responsible for anything from replacement of a light bulb to the repair to an air handling unit.

This is a team of professional staff who work together for the safety and comfort of our patients.

  • At all times carry trust communication devices (pagers and/or two-way radios) to facilitate immediate response to emergencies. liaise with Trust employees and external contractors. I.e.: ward staff, admin staff, service contractors.
  • Must have a flexible approach to works and a good understanding of other trades, services and plant.
  • To interpret and work from all instructions, drawings and specifications appropriate to his/her original trade, without site supervision.
  • To liaise with operational estates office regarding plant or equipment failures and to request the supply of goods and/or services as necessary.
  • Under the instruction of the maintenance technician formulate written method statement so that a permit to work can be produced.
  • To undertake any duties which may arise and may reasonably be deemed to come within the scope of the post.
