Job summary
The Microbiology team at Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow, Essex is seeking a suitably qualified (FIBMS or MSc), HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist to join our dynamic department.
As a Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registered Biomedical Scientist; to lead and supervise the day to day delivery of a diagnostic service, within the Microbiology department. To provide advanced biomedical science technical support in a specific area of expertise by providing training, advice, technical development, troubleshooting and supervision within area of expertise. Maintaining an up to date knowledge and competency to practise within Microbiology. By participating, preparing, processing diagnostic investigations on biological specimens in accordance with agreed protocols and standard operational procedures (SOP) ensuring the department maintains UKAS accreditations, HSE compliance, as well as laboratory training status. The laboratory is ISO 15189 UKAS accredited.
Main duties of the job
-
- Supports the Microbiology Manager(s) and the Pathology Manager in the day to day management of the microbiology department.
- Rotate through all areas of the Microbiology lab, including Molecular and Serology areas working according to SOPs.
- Able to trouble shot any issues related to laboratory equipment or process outcomes.
- Responsible for all documentation and techniques in that area(s) you have been assigned responsibility by the laboratory Manager(s).
- Assist in maintaining appropriate internal and external quality assurance to recognise poor performance and act accordingly.
- Performs any other duties, commensurate with the post and in the interest of the service
- Supervise and organise the workflow through all sections of the lab making the best possible use of available resources.
- Provide an out-of-hours service on a rotational basis with other BMS staff, dealing with urgent and complex microbiological investigations
