Job summary
The Surgery & Critical Care division is seeking to recruit a Specialist Grade Doctor with a broad training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery who can complement, support and build on the existing interests within the department.
You will assess and treat patients in outpatients (Bevan Ward) and theatres at PAH. They will include both general OMFS patients and those who require skin cancer management. The post will also involve management of trauma and emergency patients at PAH.
In addition, you will support the trust in terms of its contractual obligations to its commissioners and in achieving the trust targets. You will be bound by the conditions in your contract and also the GMC's expectations as set out in "Good Medical Practice."
Lastly, you will have the opportunity to to develop your role to encompass managerial, educational or other extended roles dependant on your specific interests.

Main duties of the job
The sustained increase in demand for both general and specialist services has led to expansion of the department.
The appointee will support the Oral and Maxillofacial Consultants caring for a local population of up to 500,000. Acute admissions/emergencies and elective work are managed at PAHT.
The department plans to strengthen its current skin service provision. The successful candidate will be expected to become involved and assist in further expansion of the department.
The Department currently covers all aspects of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) and has developed sub-specialisation within Skin malignancy and Head and Neck Oncology.
There is a busy trauma and elective workload in all areas of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and we have a comprehensive surgery programme.

The successful applicant will be expected to participate actively in the diagnosis, management, and follow-up of patients. The main role of the right candidate would be to independently run oral & maxillofacial surgery consultation clinics and minor operation sessions under local anaesthetic and to attend and support some OMFS Consultant sessions.
We have a dedicated Oral & Maxillofacial surgery department where the majority of activities will be carried out. Support will be provided by a mix of dental and general nursing staff in addition to the departmental DCTs and F2.
The post holder will be expected to attend and contribute to the departments clinical meetings, audits and clinical governance.
The post-holder will be expected to work with colleagues and our management team to ensure the service is delivered in line with best practice.
There will be opportunities and encouragement will be offered to support the successful applicant to develop areas of interest in clinical and non-clinical areas including post-graduate education.
The post-holder will:
- Work with colleagues to provide a service with the highest standard of care.
- Work with the multi-professional team to develop care pathways and clinical guidelines.

The successful applicant will participate in the regular in-house educational programme and attend the audit meetings at.
Principal Accountabilities
The post holder will:
