Specialty Registrar in Neurology

Job summary

The post would be ideal for motivated, enthusiastic candidates, wanting to gain experience in Neurology in a regional neuroscience centre and in neurology subspecialty services. This is fixed-term, start date ASAP until August 2026.

The Neurology Department provides comprehensive adult neurological care for both emergency and elective work. This includes an inpatient Neurology ward (Charing Cross), Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC), a planned Neurological Treatment Unit (NTU), an Acute Neurology service, a wide range of sub-speciality outpatient clinics and a number of Multi-disciplinary team meetings.

The post will involve care of neurology inpatients, acute neurology liaison service, outpatient clinics - general and MS/neuroinflammatory - and weekly academic and neuro-radiology meetings. The post holders will be expected to participate in the on-call rota, which includes neurology and resident stroke thrombolysis/thrombectomy duties. The post holder must be medically qualified and maintain GMC specialist registration

Main duties of the job

To develop and maintain the competencies required to carry out the duties required of the post.

To ensure prompt attendance at agreed direct clinical care Programmed Activities.

To ensure patients are involved in decisions about their care and to respond to their views.

The Trust supports the requirements of CPD as laid down by the Royal College of Physicians and is committed to providing time and financial support for these activities.

- Where possible to collaborate with academic and clinical colleagues to enhance the Trust's translational research portfolio, at all times meeting the full requirements of research governance

- To work with medical, nursing and managerial colleagues to ensure high performance in clinical efficiency, quality of outcomes, and operational management

- To support governance activities such as:

o To review clinical outcomes in designated area using external benchmarking data where appropriate, to identify and advise variances to the divisional director or clinical director.

o To participate in clinical audit, incident reporting and analysis and to ensure resulting actions are implemented.

o To work closely with the directorate, patient and public involvement panels in relation to clinical and services developments as delegated by the divisional director/clinical director

- To demonstrate excellent leadership skills with regard to individual performance, clinical teams and the Trust.

  • Evidence of competence in management of medical emergencies and in-patients through continuous work-based assessments, portfolio evidence, including log book documentation if applicable
  • Evidence of competence to work without direct supervision where appropriate
  • Demonstrate current ALS certification or equivalent
