Job summary
The post-holder will join the current team of junior doctors in the Elderly Medicine Department. They will be based on medicine for the elderly wards and rehabilitation wards.
Main duties of the job
This Medicine for the Elderly position involves leading multidisciplinary care on inpatient wards and the rehabilitation unit, including ward rounds, board rounds, MDT meetings, new patient reviews, and family discussions. Departmental duties entail regular radiology meetings, Grand Rounds, educational sessions, medical meetings and Falls clinic.
About us
At St Marys Hospital there are currently three elderly care wards: Witherow (13 beds), Lewis Loyd (16 beds) and Thistlewaite (20 beds) for complex geriatric medical inpatients. The Acute Frailty service comprises two teams based on the first floor of the QEQM building, providing acute geriatric care for older patients on the Acute Medical Unit (AMU), Referrals are taken from all medical teams with the aim of providing early and effective comprehensive geriatric assessment and appropriate multidisciplinary specialist care where appropriate, working with community services to expedite discharge and streamline care. Consultants and junior medical staff are supported in multidisciplinary working by skilled nursing staff, therapists and the hospital discharge team. There is, in addition, a separate ortho-geriatric service based in Valentine Ellis Ward.

- On GMC Register with license to practice
- MBBS or equivalent
Academic achievements including research/publications
Essential
- Evidence of achievement appropriate to level of appointment at ICHNT
Relevant experience
Essential
- Must have at least completed Foundation training
- NHS work experience (not including observership)
Desirable
- MRCP Part 2 (PACES)
- Advanced life support
- Experience at SHO level in Elderly Medicine
