We are recruiting for CT1/2 Local Core Surgical Training Programme posts, starting in August 2026, on a two-year programme. Suitable candidates will have completed Foundation Training (or equivalent) and will demonstrate a strong interest in pursuing a surgical career. We offer high-quality surgical training programmes across several specialties and have developed our own Local Core Surgical Training Programme. Delivered across our sites in North West London, the programme provides tailored core-level equivalent training. It is managed, quality assured, supported and mentored by our Local Training Programme Director and education team. Successful completion of the programme, along with a satisfactory final annual review, will result in the award of a Certificate of Readiness to Enter Higher Surgical Training (CREHST), confirming that you have achieved the competencies and experience required for progression to higher surgical training.
Main duties of the job
The programme offers themed rotations across a range of surgical specialties, including:
- ENT Surgery
- General Surgery
- Neurosurgery
- Plastic Surgery
- Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgery
- Vascular Surgery
Rotations may also include allied specialties such as Intensive Care Medicine, Transplant Surgery and Major Trauma. Additional or alternative placements may be considered following discussion with the Local Training Programme Director.

Successful candidates can expect:
- Appointment to a 2-year contract with 4- or 6-month rotations, providing structure and stability.
- Regular scheduled operating, clinic, acute & elective surgical experience, aligned with guidance and standards detailed by the Joint Committee on Surgical Training (JCST).
- A named Educational Supervisor for the duration of the programme
- 10 days of study leave per year together with an enhanced personal study budget.
- Access to ISCP e-portfolio (Trust funded as part of the enhanced study budget).
- Annual Review Process & support to achieve core surgical training requirements.
