Job summary

We are seeking a motivated Associate Practitioner to join North West London Pathology. This role supports the delivery of high quality diagnostic services across our network, working under appropriate supervision to ensure accurate and timely processing of pathological specimens. You will play an important part in maintaining safe, effective and patientfocused laboratory services.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will participate in the daytoday activities of the department, undertaking technical work to support screening, diagnostic and monitoring services. You will process a range of specimens under the supervision of biomedical scientists, communicate effectively with colleagues and service users, work flexibly according to service needs, and maintain accurate documentation in line with Trust policies. The role also involves contributing to quality assurance, supporting research and audit activity where required, adhering to safe working practices and assisting in training new staff as appropriate.

Job responsibilities

The Associate Practitioner will be responsible for providing technical support within the diagnostic laboratory in accordance with departmental protocols. Working under supervision, you will achieve proficiency in designated diagnostic areas, developing technical skills to resolve analytical issues and recognise urgent or clinically significant results. You will work across various sections of the laboratory to ensure tasks are completed to the required standards, while contributing to the maintenance of internal and external quality systems. The role requires full engagement with Trust policies, including health and safety, infection control and risk management. You will participate in departmental meetings, support the implementation of Trust procedures and contribute to the maintenance of accreditation standards across all sites. The post includes responsibilities for maintaining stocks of consumables, supporting colleagues to promote a cohesive team environment, undertaking structured training to meet required competencies and keeping personal knowledge and skills up to date through the Trusts performance and development processes. The job holder will be required to work out of hours, including unsocial hours and contractual overtime, in line with service requirements.

  • Or proven equivalent experience in a relevant discipline
