Job summary
An opportunity has arisen to join Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust Haematology & Transfusion Services as a Band 7 Transfusion Practitioner.
We are seeking applications from motivated professionals with a strong interest in transfusion practice, including NMC-registered nurses and HCPC-registered biomedical scientists with relevant experience in an acute hospital setting. The successful candidate will possess excellent communication and organisational skills, a sound knowledge of transfusion practice and governance, and experience in education and training. The post holder will take a lead role in the management and follow-up of transfusion-related incidents.
The role involves working across multiple sites within Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, supporting a wide range of specialist clinical services. The post holder will promote safe and effective transfusion practice in collaboration with transfusion practitioners, clinicians, practice educators, laboratory and nursing staff. Key responsibilities include delivering education at trust induction and core skills training, undertaking audit activity, and chairing, attending and contributing to internal and external meetings.
Main duties of the job
- Reporting to the lead CNS to promote safe and appropriate transfusion practice.across the Trust in line with Patient Blood Management.
- To be a key member of the Trust Transfusion Team (TTT) and lead on the meetings when required.
- To support the development and implementation of the policies of the Trust Transfusion Committee (TTC).
- To exercise high levels of judgment, discretion and decision-making in clinicalcare to provide specialist expertise and advice on blood transfusion issues.
