We have a fantastic opportunity for a pharmacist to build their career in surgical pharmacy and develop as a directorate pharmacist.
The trust delivers elective and emergency surgical care to adult patients. Surgical specialties include major trauma, plastics, orthopaedic, surgical rehabilitation, colorectal, upper gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary, bariatric, vascular, endocrine surgery, ear, nose and throat, urology, breast and ophthalmology.
You will work with a friendly and aspirational pharmacy and surgical team. This is a clinical role across 3 hospital sites delivering education and training, gaining experience in audit, quality improvement of services, improving medicines safety and access to medicines and parenteral nutrition. You will have the opportunity to work with multidisciplinary teams, carry out directorate work including formulary activities, review and implement guidelines and procedures, and undertake medicines expenditure surveillance within Surgery.
This role is for you if you enjoy working in an acute healthcare trust, are self-motivated, organised and value working alongside a wide range of healthcare staff. You will need good IT skills and be able to work with various IT programs and databases.
Applicants should be a pharmacist registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council. Upon joining, you should have completed a minimum of 18 months of a postgraduate clinical pharmacy diploma and working towards full diploma or equivalent experiential learning.
Main duties of the job
- You will champion the safe, clinically effective and cost-efficient use of medicines whilst undertaking quality improvement projects to drive efficiency in surgical admissions, discharges and medicines optimisation and safety.
- You will rotate between St Mary's, Hammersmith and Charing Cross hospital sites in order to provide a comprehensive clinical pharmacy service to surgical wards and trust wide parenteral nutrition provision to adults. The role will involve you having an active participation in multidisciplinary teams such as ward rounds, huddles and discharge services.
- You will have the opportunity to undertake medicines expenditure surveillance/cost-improvement initiatives and ensure safe and appropriate use of medicines through interactions with the multi-disciplinary team, audits and service evaluation.
- You will be involved in supporting and helping develop trainee pharmacists, band 6 pharmacists and medicines management pharmacy technicians.
- You will also be expected to participate in the out of hours, late duty, weekend and bank holiday working on a rostered basis.
