Job summary
The Urology diagnostics and lithotripsy department has a vacancy for a Band 5 nurse to deliver high quality nursing care in keeping with the trusts values and behaviours in ambulatory care setting. We are proud to be a rapidly evolving unit that provides specialist urology clinics that are second to none. We are one of four leading centres offering the RAPID pathway for suspected prostate cancer. We are also proud to offer recent innovations in our hot-stones lithotripsy service and our nurse-led prostate biopsy service.
This is an ideal opportunity to develop skills in cutting edge urology diagnostics and also in becoming an effective leader. You will be working alongside nurses and administrative team to promote great patient experience.
The department offers a Monday to Friday service with clinics. You should be able to demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You should have clinical skills required to perform and assist in procedures within a busy outpatient department.
Main duties of the job
- Ensure patient safety is maintained.
- To undertake assessment, planning and evaluation of urology patients.
- To promote a culture of demonstrable best practice and integrated evidence based practice.
- Act as patient advocate where relevant, facilitating informed discussion concerning treatment options and ensuring informed consent.
- Work collaboratively and co-operatively with clinical colleagues to ensure a cost effective and quality Urology Service.
- To work within the urology unit, carrying out nurse led procedures such flow rates, trial without catheter clinics, bladder scans, urine dips, complex catheter changes, assisting with prostate biopsy, flexible cystoscopy clinics and lithotripsy.
- Ability to communicate and coordinate with the multi-professional teams locally, and with referring units.
- Provide specialist information and support to urology patients in the urology unit/ward areas and OPD.
- Participate in nurse led clinics to meet the patients need and service demand.
- To provide support and care for the patient and his/her family respecting their need for privacy and dignity.
- Produce written communications which are clear, fluent, concise and easily understood.
