Main duties of the job

  • To ensure the safe, clinically effective and cost efficient use of drugs
  • To optimise the choice of drug and dosing
  • To optimise patient knowledge of their drugs
  • To enhance the quality of patient care
  • To influence prescribers and recommend changes to patients' treatment where appropriate
  • To manage difficult and ambiguous problems
  • To review prescriptions for their clinical appropriateness, safety and legality as required by current legislation
  • To provide a high quality, customer focused pharmaceutical service to in-patients, discharge patients, community clinics, and outlying nursing homes both within standard hours and out-of-hours. To provide inpatient and out-patient dispensing services to the Western Eye Hospital.
  • To input prescription information using the Pharmacy Computer system.
  • To dispense and supply drugs to patients (including using the automated dispensing system ('Robot').
  • To undertake the final technical accuracy check
  • To provide evaluated pharmaceutical advice and information, to all health care professionals and patients of the Trust using on-line data bases and primary sources
