Job summary

This is a great opportunity for an experienced and aspiring midwife to progress in their career as a key member of the private caseload midwife team within the Division of Women's, Children and Clinical services (WCCS).

We are looking for an experienced band 6 or band 7 midwife who is passionate about continuity of care to join our team. You will work closely with a small team of private caseload midwives and Consultant Obstetricians to provide individualised women centered care for a specific client group.

As a band 7 midwife you will also be required to demonstrate strong clinical leadership skills within your role, be easily identifiable, highly visible and accessible to patients, carers and junior staff. Management duties may be required occasionally as required within the role.

You will need to be very organised and efficient to manage the team's caseload. In addition we are looking for candidates with evidence of effective communication and an understanding of the importance of Multidisciplinary decision making skills to influence and sustain high care standards, safety and quality.

Main duties of the job

  • Caseload a small number of Private Patients within the team and provide all aspects of midwifery care to a dedicated group of women within the antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal period.
  • The role has a 24 hour availability requirement that is split between long days and night shift pattern including weekends to ensure team continuity of care during the intrapartum period.
  • Support and work closely with the Obstetric colleagues to ensure care is safe and responsive. Liaising and escalating any concerns to ensure delivery of high standard care.
  • Work collaboratively with other departments to manage patient care and ensure safety across maternity thus contributing to effective patient flow.
  • Promote and teach Bespoke1:1 antenatal classes for patients on your caseload
  • Undertake management duties within the team and department as required and support junior staff.
  • Adhere to the NMC's professional regulations and ensure that midwifery practice is within the regulatory framework.
