Job summary
The F2 doctor is responsible with other staff for the ward care of patients and the maintenance of the patient's medical record. They will have opportunity to attend a variety of specialist outpatient's clinics with the consultants when the ward work allows. They are expected to attend the departmental meetings; including Radiology, inpatient ESC and cirrhosis MDTs, Histology, Research presentations, and the weekly Grand Round. In addition, they will be expected to attend the structured teaching programmes provided.
The F2 doctor will be responsible for such other specific clinical duties as allocated by consultants, including performing other duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances.
Main duties of the job
The post involves working as part of a team on St Marys Hospital site with exposure to and opportunities to learn from:
Ward based care of Hepatology and General Medical inpatients on the Acute Medical wards and Douglas ward.
Working as part of the admitting team on the acute unselected medical take clerking patients with a wide variety of acute medical problems.
The opportunity to learn practical procedures including ascitic tap, abdominal paracentesis, lumbar puncture, joint aspiration and central venous catheter insertion.
Assessing patients admitted acutely under the acute medical take and Hepatology teams and under supervision, being responsible for the quality and continuity of clinical care of these patients in and out of hours.
The opportunity to attend Specialist Hepatology clinics including Pre-Transplant, General Hepatology, Cirrhosis, NAFLD, HCC, Viral Hepatitis, Family liver clinic, Autoimmune, Enhanced Supportive Care and Alcohol related liver disease clinics.
The opportunity to attend endoscopy lists.
