Spinal Clinical Nurse Specialist

Job summary

This role is for a 12-month fixed term contract as a Band 7 Spinal CNS and is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and experienced senior nurse who has a keen interest in developing their career in neurological rehabilitation.

The primary focus of the Spinal CNS will be to support spinal cord injury patients in managing and optimizing their bladder and bowel function. The successful candidate will provide rapid access to acute rehabilitation (RAAR), contribute to specialist care planning, and deliver educational support for both patients and staff.

The post holder will be an integral member of the MDT and will serve as an expert resource for other HCPs, particularly in the management of neurogenic bladder and bowel dysfunction.

Main duties of the job

  • Maintain and promote effective communication with patients, relatives, visitors, colleagues within the Trust and all involved with the Spinal service.
  • Liaise with other healthcare professionals to facilitate a seamless service. Participate in Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT) and Departmental meetings including those regarding spinal research.
  • Ensures all documentation, both written and electronic, complies with Trust standards, research protocols and NMC guidelines.
  • Develop effective working relationships across the team, wider MDT, and patient, family/ carers to encourage productive working.
  • Keep up to date with evidence based practice, through seminars, conferences, recognised courses and reflective practice.
  • Implement evidence based practice, encouraging multidisciplinary participation.
  • Keep up to date with current developments in nursing and ensure evidence based practice.
  • Contribute to research activity for the service, and ensure compliance with good clinical research practice guidelines.
  • Work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team (MDT) to identify the need for patientinformation leaflets based on service requirements and patient needs.
