Service Support Co-ordinator (Pharmacy clinical trials)

Job summary

You will work directly with the Head of Pharmacy Clinical Trials & Advanced Therapies, providing day-to-day operational support to ensure the service runs smoothly. Responsibilities include:

  • Managing administrative and clerical staff
  • Coordinating trial activity, performance reporting, and budget monitoring
  • Supporting service planning, recruitment, and quality control
  • Acting as a key liaison with internal and external stakeholders including NHS consultants, pharmaceutical companies, and research organisations

Youll also play a vital role in maintaining high standards of research governance and ensuring the service meets performance targets

Main duties of the job

  • Provide day-to-day operational support to the Head of Pharmacy Clinical Trials & Advanced Therapies to ensure the smooth running of the service.
  • Manage administrative and clerical staff within the Pharmacy Clinical Trials team, including recruitment, performance reviews, and training.
  • Coordinate trial tracking activities, maintaining accurate records of trial status, resourcing, activity, and budgetary information.
  • Support budget management by monitoring expenditure, investigating variances, and maintaining financial records.
  • Ensure performance targets are met by validating trial setup and activity data, updating systems, and implementing action plans.
  • Act as a key point of contact for internal and external stakeholders including NHS consultants, pharmaceutical companies, and research organisations.
  • Lead service improvement initiatives and contribute to modernisation projects across the department.
  • Maintain high standards of research governance, ensuring compliance with policies, procedures, and risk management protocols.
  • Provide cover for the Head of Pharmacy Clinical Trials & Advanced Therapies during absence, briefing senior managers as needed.
  • Coordinate staffing rotas, manage leave and sickness reporting, and ensure continuity of service delivery.

    • Very proficient user of database, spreadsheet and presentation software

    • Have a knowledge of the NHS Plan targets
    • Have been involved with a change management project
    • Have knowledge of how to manage a budget.
    • Have worked in a complex clinical service in an Acute Teaching Hospital

    • Can demonstrate personal characteristics that would lead an interview panel to the conclusion that the person has the potential to: Stay calm under pressure and make rational decisions Motivate, influence and negotiate others Act as a role model Adapt to change

    • Demonstrate an understanding of the concept of Clinical Governance & Research
    • Have had experience of recruitment, performance review and disciplinary processes
