We are seeking a 0.5WTE safety improvement fellow to deliver key safety improvement initiatives for West London Children's Healthcare.
West London Children's Healthcare brings together services for children and young people at Imperial College Healthcare and Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust to improve quality, experience and outcomes across all aspects of child health.
The post holder will manage the development and delivery of several projects which will support improvements in patient safety covering key areas such as transitioning well to adult services and PEWS role out. This will include working with a range of stakeholders across the Trust in order to scope, develop and evaluate safety improvement projects.
This one-year fellowship is an excellent opportunity for a doctor in training who is interested in developing their leadership portfolio, to significantly develop their management skills and understanding of the patient safety needs of a large, complex Trust.
Applicants must be registered with General Medical Council with a licence to practise and eligible for entry to ST3 level training. Experience/interest in paediatrics is desirable for the role.
Main duties of the job
The role will involve:o Providing a bridge between senior clinical leaders, managers and the wider paediatric traineeworkforce to improve communication, engagement, and morale.o Leading on work to support the improved understanding of and involvement in the Trust's safetyimprovement programme for the wider paediatric trainee workforce.o Leading on specific improvement projects to improve patient safety.o Developing and maintaining up-to-date project documentation, and producing periodic progressreports.o Attending and presenting their work at key trust meetings, including the executive maternityoversight meeting.
The postholder will also attend departmental and trustwide management meetings to gain anunderstanding of management and the wider social, political and economic influence on health caredelivery.
The postholder will work across all WLCH sites (St Mary's Hospital, Hammersmith Hospital, Chelsea andWestminster Hospital and West Middlesex University Hospital) but will be based for administrativepurposes at St Mary's Hospital in Paddington. The role is office based, 20hrs, 2.5 days per week. The role is fixed term for 12 months.

The postholder will be supervised by a designated consultant who will oversee their development plans during the placement and co-ordinate opportunities for personal development. A customised programme of training and educational experience will be designed around the needs of the individual. The postholder will be expected to maintain a learning portfolio reflecting upon their progress through the Fellowship. The portfolio will inform regular tutorials with the consultant.
Study leave will be at the discretion of the Clinical Director. Fellows are entitled to 10 days and a maximum budget of £400 per annum for study leave. Time off for a postgraduate medical education qualification will be taken out of study leave allocation and study leave will not normally be granted for clinical training or for clinical examination preparation.
Clinical responsibilities
There are no formal clinical responsibilities within this post. The postholder may, in agreement with their supervisor, take part in the on-call rota appropriate to their specialty and grade within ICHT or arrange for clinical experience within that specialty in order to maintain clinical skills, to a maximum of 1 session / day per week across WLCH.
