Job summary

Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust delivers pan London specialist services for stroke and major trauma and hosts an innovative integrated specialist neurological rehabilitation unit in partnership with CLCH community neurological rehabilitation serviceOur specialist rotation for Stroke, Neuro-Rehabilitation, Major Trauma and Neurosciences(Neurology & Neurosurgery) currently has a substantive opportunity for a dynamic band 7 OT in the rotation. There will also be a fixed term opportunities within the stroke unit.

You will receive regular clinical supervision from a Clinical Specialist OT and professional support and supervision from a Lead OT to support both your clinical and professional development. We actively support continuing personal and professional development through an established performance development review (PDR) system, in-service training and external courses. There are also opportunities to undertake formal postgraduate study.

We are ideally seeking an experienced Band 6 or Band 7 Occupational Therapist, with previous neurosciences experience. This position would be ideal for an OT with prior involvement in service improvement, strong supervisory experience and a genuine desire to forge a career within stroke and neurosciences.

Main duties of the job

  • To be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of own work, including management of patients in your care.
  • To provide comprehensive and specialist occupational therapy assessment and diagnosis for adults with a range of highly complex presentations, by utilising advanced neurological assessment, clinical reasoning, evidence-based knowledge, investigative and analytical skills.
  • To work both independently and as team leader, demonstrating professional and clinical leadership to manage the admission and discharge of patients to own and team caseload.
  • To formulate and deliver an individualised occupational therapy management programme based on advanced knowledge of evidence-based practice and a wide range of specialist treatment options.
  • To communicate complex clinical findings to the patient /carers to gain valid informed consent, prior to any intervention.
  • To work within a legal framework for those patients who lack the capacity to consent to treatment,
  • To formulate accurate prognoses for a complex caseload and recommend the best course of intervention and developing comprehensive plans for onward referral or discharge.
  • To manage clinical risk within own patient caseload and that of the team.
  • To engage the patient, family and carers in the planning and delivery of the occupational therapy programme.

  • Experience working effectively within multidisciplinary teams, including inter-agency collaboration, goal planning, care pathway development, and outcome measurement
