Job summary

Following a promotion, Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust (ICHT) is seeking to appoint a Safeguarding Midwife to join our dedicated maternity safeguarding team on a full-time basis. This post is currently a band 7.

About the Role

The maternity safeguarding team operates as part of a wider integrated safeguarding service, which includes children's and adults' safeguarding, domestic abuse, modern slavery, learning disability, and autism. This full-time role may involve some weekend working, as we currently provide a six-day service across our two maternity sites: St Mary's Hospital, Paddington, and Queen Charlotte's & Chelsea Hospital, Hammersmith.

The post-holder will play a pivotal role in ensuring compliance with statutory safeguarding responsibilities, including those outlined in Working Together to Safeguard Children (2023), the Health and Social Care Act (2012), and the Children Acts (1989 and 2004). The role also aligns with the Care Quality Commission's core standards.

Main duties of the job

  • Provide effective leadership on all aspects of the safeguarding children agenda, maintaining clinical and professional competence.
  • Deliver expert safeguarding advice and support, particularly in complex, emotive, or sensitive cases.
  • Offer operational guidance to ensure compliance with national legislation, local policies, and Trust standards and support strategic implementations.
  • Promote early identification and management of safeguarding concerns through leadership, education, research, and best practice.
  • Demonstrate advanced skills and legal literacy in safeguarding and family law to influence care pathways.
  • Contribute to and initiate research to support evidence-based safeguarding practices.
  • Support Named Midwife in collaborating strategically with external partners and agencies.
