Senior Physiotherapist: Child Development Service

Job summary

The children's physiotherapy team based at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, provides a comprehensive acute and community service to Central & North Westminster and North Kensington & Chelsea localities.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to appoint to a 6 month short term contract (January to July 2026) within the Woodfield Child Development Service (WCDS). CDS physiotherapists work within an established multi-disciplinary team providing community physiotherapy for 0-19 year olds with SEND in North Westminster & RBKC.

The post holder will deliver physiotherapy for children and young people at QEII Jubilee Special School and across a community caseload in homes, educational facilities and outpatient clinics at Woodfield Road Medical Centre. QEII Jubilee School has a dedicated and experienced Band 7 physiotherapist to support this role alongside clinical leads and specialists in the physiotherapy team.

Close working relationships exist between the acute paediatric and neonatal multi-disciplinary services and children's community services, to promote clinical excellence and provide continuity of care for children and young people.

The jobholder is required to participate in the overnight on call rota and will do so once they have completed the relevant induction and achieved the required competencies. Face to face interviews will be held for this post.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide high quality physiotherapy management to patients at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.
  • To perform advanced physiotherapeutic assessment of patients with diverse presentations and complex physical and psychological conditions, to develop and deliver an individualised treatment programme.
  • The job holder is required to work at weekends as part of their contracted hours of work, (specific rota details are held locally within departments).
  • The job holder is required to participate in the overnight on call rota and will do so once they have completed the relevant induction and achieved the required competencies, (specific rota details are held locally within departments).

Essential

  • Degree (or equivalent) in Physiotherapy
  • State registration with the Health Professions Council.
  • Evidence of CPD through maintenance of a portfolio.
  • Able to demonstrate specialist learning from previous physiotherapy rotations, formal post-graduate level learning and informal CPD (both general and specific to clinical fields of speciality).
  • Demonstrate learning of personal effectiveness and first line leadership from experience and from both formal and informal CPD activity.

Desirable

  • Membership of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy
  • Membership of CSP special interest groups relevant to speciality

Experience

Essential

  • Recent substantial and sustained experience in relevant physiotherapy specialities and clinical settings
  • Experience of working as part of a physiotherapy and multidisciplinary team
  • To have participated in service development projects
  • Experience of clinical education of staff, students or assistants
  • Experience of supervision of students/ physiotherapy assistants, with development of basic supervision skills
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the use of evidence based practice in speciality
  • Experience of on-call and weekend working in an acute hospital
  • To have undertaken audit and/or research, either within area of physiotherapy speciality or as part of the MDT
